Crit Feedback

The general feedback from the crit was good. For me it was important to make things as simple and clear as possible 1. for others to feed back and 2. for assessment reason's.

The following points were made for me to follow up on which i agreed with.

- Focus your rational more ie. annouce sector you will work for. ( after talking with joe I shortened down my rational to focus it more but not to specify just on music. after this point was made in the crit perhaps adding something about the culture sector ie. Creative, Music, Arts, design, film, sport, fashion should be added to my rational.

- State that the poster are to be hung in frames in a home rather than just cheap commercial poster that would be stuck on a wall with blue tack.

- Consider promotional methods for the online shop of POPUP. How will people be directed to the online shop? etc.

- Do more variations of the 2nd and 3rd poster set.

- Annotate research and developed at a more through level.

- Evaluate work as well as stating what i will do.

5 crit questions

1. Do the briefs wrote match my rational?

2. Are the typefaces for the poster's suitable?

3. Would the poster be suitable for a house hold environment?

4. Is there sufficient evidence of development on my d.p blog?

5. Do the initial design direction's 9 ( typefaces, colours, contextual material) work for the stated briefs?

Updated briefs,Rational & Stament of intent

After the group tutorial with fred i decided to clear up my briefs state what i will get from them and work a little more on my statement of intent. I also adjusted my rational, although its more focused i still think it could be edited down to a couple of sentence's.

Packaging for posters.

I investigated different methods of packaging for the poster's, One thing that really annoy's me is that when you receive a print ( that you probably paid a lot of money for) it's often rolled up into a poster roll causing the poster to become scuffed and warped.

To over come this problem i though about a flat box for the thick card poster's and a oblong box for the news print poster's where the poster doesn't have to be rolled up as tight.

I used the vinyl cutter to brand the box's to keep a visual consistency. The sticker could also be used within promotion where the customer is given stickers along side the poster they have bought the persuaded to 'pop up' the sticker in a unusual place and upload a photo to the website. Then every month the customer with the most unusual placed stickers will win a free poster of there choice.

Distribution: Website

For the distribution side of the poster's i have proposed and mocked up a small website selling the poster's online. Here customers can view and order the poster's. The site needed to be simple and showcase the posters to there full potential.

More Logo development.

This is the final logo for the online store POPUP. Although i decided on a typeface earlier i tried the logo with other typefaces to see if any brought out better results. The typefaces that sat well with the logo that could be used for the website and other branded material was seattle sans and century gothic. I decided to stick with the original choice as the weight and shape of the logo's matched the typeface visually as the logo was made form this typeface. Some thing that i want to investigate is how this logo can be used to work on packaging and stationary etc such as invoices and receipt's.

seeing how the logo sat on colour i decided to use the off white/cream colour to take to use with the website design. It's different from white, which alot of website use's these days and also links with the paper used as stock for the poster's.

More Logo development.

I had some more ideas about the logo being a toaster as toast pop's out of it, but i think this gives off more of a foody look rather than the strong, nearly neutral logo i wanted to go for. I played around with the chosen logo seeing if a reverse out would make it more or less legible. Using the reversed black behind the logo i played with the shape to make a poster style pictogram image to incorporate that popup is a poster shop.

Logo development.

I played around the with the word 'pop up' using simple shapes playing on the the word pop up. I chose to use the type face seattle sans as it suits the target audience. On asking peers the logo that was mostly favourable was the word stacked up on top of each other creating a upwards looking movement as well as a logo/ form that could be used across a range of media in a number of ways.

More poster development and distribution plan.

Initial i started playing around with the a pen and paper to create ideas for the logo. It need to be strong visually as a symbol so in the future the brand can be pushed through the use of plastering everything with the it.

After playing around with many ideas i decided to take what i had done with a pen to the computer.

Printed Song title series poster's

Size : 500mm x 700mm and 420mm x 594, full colour print on to bulky news print and 3 mm thick card.

As a set the poster have come out well. I think the use of a limited colour palette has helped as well as the use of standardised layout. The colour's are not to garish or bright so will work within a house hold environment. Again the print finish on the stock used gives of vintage style especially on the mount board which is something i shall use again.

Just to evidence that these poster's hit the likes of the target audience the guys over at give up art received my portfolio the other day and comment that they liked these, so they will be receiving a parcel within the next few days with the whole set in.

Printed roland series poster's

Size : 500mm x 700mm full colour print on to bulky news print.

I feel the final outcome for these poster's work's well. The stock chosen gives of not only a instruction manual type feel but also add the the design making the colour stand out more and it also gives the poster's a vintage type look which ties in the the 'vintage' style instruments.

@nd set of poster's

Final outcomes for the 2nd poster set i shall printed onto both the bulky news print stock as stated but also on to 3mm thick mounting card at a smaller size. This way the posters can be used in two fame sizes rather than the one specific size.
